Saudi Coating Company Ltd, ( SAMCO), formerly known as SACCO, was founded in 1992 in collaboration with its Canadian partner, Nantucket Rebar Services (NRS), who is a leader in this industry to produce Epoxy Coated Reinforcing Bars at its licensed plant in Dammam, using latest technology to protect the reinforcing bars from corrosion.

What is Rebar Corrosion

It has been observed that concrete

structures which were expected to stand

for generations now require extensive

repair and in some cases a total

replacement only after a 5 year lifespan.

These collective repair costs amount to

several hundreds of millions of Saudi

Riyals annually. The reason for this

extensive damage is reinforcing steel

corrosion from

• chloride salts (found in Sea water) and

• carbondioxyde (found in air)

The Basic Factors that lead to

corrosion of reinforcement are:

* High temperature and humidity.

* High natural chloride contents in the aggregate and

water.

* Air borne chloride along coastal area.

* Chemical and concrete additives which contain

corrosive materials.

* Mild carbonic acids formed of CO2,

permeated in concrete which activate steel reinforcing bars to develop corrosive substances which cause concrete fracture.

SAMCO has taken the initiative to resist that problem, obtained licenses to produce Coated Reinforcing Bars. This epoxy coating protects the rebars from adverse environmental conditions and substances which cause Corrosion even if these

substances reside inside the concrete .

Quality & Quality Assurance

Epoxy coated rebars are supplied in accordance with the requirements of ASTM standard A 775/775 M-90. Only selected steel bars, produced by Saudi Iron and Steel Co. (Hadeed) with surface properties

accepted to meet our quality are processed in our automatic coating system with in-line installed holiday detectors followed by integrated inspection

procedure and well equipped LAB to’ ensure the following:

• Thickness of coating

• Continuity of coating.

• Adhesion of coating.

• Bendability.
